"Don't be alarmed Saturday evening by the unusually large, bright object rising in the east.
Even though the moon will be as close as it ever gets to Earth, it will be more a source of wonder than worry, astronomers say. The so-called "super moon" will be the largest full moon of the year when it peeks over the horizon shortly before 8 p.m. and ascends into the evening sky.
Saturday's moon will appear up to 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than other full moons this year. The moon's monthly orbit will bring it closest to Earth -- its perigee -- at 11:34 p.m., according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. It will appear fullest a minute later, NASA says."

OH what a moon it was! Very beautiful here in California.
ReplyDeleteOur Super Moon here on Maui was a bust :( I later learned the best viewing .... when the moon would be at it's largest .... was to watch it rising from the horizon and then setting early in the morning. No obstructions was the key. It was bright though and we got some wonderful pictures.
